Why you Should Care About Proper Waste Removal

No one can say that talking about waste removal is one of their favourite topics.

In fact, a lot of people ignore the topic in case they’re judged for not being more environmentally-conscious.

But the truth is, we need to take more responsibility for the things we throw away.

Find out why most people don’t care about proper waste removal, and why they should.

Out of sight, out of mind

A lot of people throw away their rubbish and don’t think a second more about it. After all, it’s rubbish – what more is there to think about? Well it as it turns out, quite a lot.

Now that there are recycling sites, lots of people assume that it doesn’t matter where they put their rubbish.

It’s better to take responsibility for your waste removal so you know that you did everything in your power to make sure your rubbish was disposed of properly.

Why you should care about proper waste removal

Landfill sites are still heavily used, despite that the UK is recycling more than ever before. We’re still filling the ground with our waste, which is just a temporary measure – it’s going to affect us one day.

As a country, we recycle about 44% of our waste, meaning that 55% of our rubbish can’t be recycled and gets put into landfill or burned. We might think that this is the maximum we can reach – it’s not.

Sweden recycles 99% of their rubbish, meaning a tiny 1% goes to landfill – the rest is used for energy or recycled into new things. That means we can aim to do the same.

How to reduce your household waste

There are lots of ways you can reduce the amount of rubbish you throw away:

  • Take your own bags when you go shopping instead of buying them each time. Think about how much money you could save too!
  • Think before you print – is it necessary for you to print that one-line email? Not only will you save paper but also ink cartridges that often end up in landfill.
  • Declutter your home and recycle what you can, then aim to buy fewer things that you don’t need.

If you think it’s time to declutter your home, consider hiring a waste removal company that can help you dispose of your waste responsibly and in a manner that won’t affect the environment.
